As of June 12, registration is open to participate in the <\/span>2019 PPA Business Call<\/b>. Entrepreneurs can participate, <\/span>startups<\/span><\/i>, social organizations, community-based businesses, networks of people\/collectives, institutions and companies in the initial stage of their impact businesses aimed at the conservation of the Amazon Forest, the valorization of biodiversity and socio-environmental development.<\/span><\/p>\n

Entries will be accepted from initiatives located or with value chains related to the Brazilian Amazon, and which fit into the following areas: sustainable agriculture and livestock; sustainable forest management and production and socio-biodiversity products; education and social well-being combined with environmental conservation; mitigation and adaptation to climate change; socio-environmental products and services; combating animal trafficking, illegal logging, environmental crimes and reducing the impact on rivers and forests through waste management<\/span><\/p>\n

Applications can be made until 07\/21, via the application form available on the website <\/span>ppa.org.br\/camada2019<\/span><\/a>. Questions describing the main activity of each business, details about the planning and current stage of financial development, social and environmental impacts and benefits, among other information, must be answered. <\/span><\/p>\n

performed by <\/span>Partners for the Amazon Platform<\/span><\/a> (PPA) with support from Pipe Social, the Call will select enterprises to participate in business rounds with investors for financial support of up to R$ 800 thousand and participate in the <\/span>PPA Acceleration Program<\/span><\/a>, which includes on-site thematic training, personalized mentoring, coworking, legal, accounting, marketing and branding advice, in addition to scholarships for participation in training and events.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPPA wants to foster the development of businesses with a socio-environmental impact to create an economy based on the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of the Amazon forest. Our great differential is to bring together companies, investors and strategic partners that allow us to leverage the business through a complete support package for entrepreneurs that includes everything from training and specialized advice to direct capital investment in the initial stages of the business. PPA's Business Call was tailor-made for the Amazon and hopes to awaken entrepreneurship and the ecosystem of businesses with innovative impact in the region\u201d, highlights Mariano Cenamo, Director of New Businesses at Idesam and Executive Coordinator of PPA. <\/span><\/p>\n

1st Call, held in 2018, received 81 entries<\/b><\/p>\n

The 2019 Business Call continues a movement started in 2017, when a group of companies, civil society organizations and international entities came together to promote new sustainable development models for the Amazon.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2018, the 1st Call was held, which received 81 applicants, of which 15 were selected to participate in the <\/span>PPA Acceleration Program<\/span><\/a>, and four of these ventures participated in a session with investors, held during the <\/span>1st Amazon Impact Investment and Business Forum<\/span><\/a>. The projects received financial contributions that totaled R$ 1,185,000.00. The others selected competed for the PPA Entrepreneur Award, in the total amount of R$ 60,000.00.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) it was a great pleasure to invest in and participate in the first call last year. We were very satisfied with the success and results achieved \u2013 81 proposals received, 15 businesses identified, 4 received investments. We understand that, through PPA and its incubation and acceleration program, businesses with impact will be identified that will present innovative solutions for sustainable socioeconomic development and the conservation of Amazonian biodiversity. We are motivated and we hope to receive good proposals for investment in this second call\u201d, assesses Alexandre Alves, Specialist in Engagement with the Private Sector and Partnership Development at USAID.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2019 Call is also supported by Private Social Investment, through the Group of Foundations and Impact Institute (FIIMP), the Humanize Institute and the Vale Fund.<\/span><\/p>\n

FIIMP is made up of institutes and foundations that are, together, learning about the entrepreneur's journey and impact investing. "For us, this support for the PPA means expanding the group's agenda for environmental causes and also experimenting with supporting businesses outside the Southeast Region, helping to foster a sustainable business environment in the Amazon, which values natural resources and the peoples of the Amazon. region\u201d, explains M\u00e1rcia Soares, from Fundo Vale, member of the Executive Secretariat of FIIMP. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to support the acceleration program for <\/span>PPA<\/span>, an initiative that strengthens businesses focused on the development of socio-biodiversity in the Amazon. The platform's convening power reflects the strength of the partnerships and the dedication of the entire team involved\u201d. The 2nd PPA Business Call is a PPA realization, coordinated by Idesam and financial support from USAID, CIAT, Instituto Humanize and Fundo Vale. It has a partnership with Pipe Social, Amazon Entrepreneurship Center, Centro de Vida Institute (ICV), CERTI Foundation, Amazon Network Foundation, FIIMP, Sitawi and Conexsus and support from the following companies and organizations: Natura, Peabiru Institute, Conservation Team da Amaz\u00f4nia (Ecam) Bemol, DD&L, Whirpool Cervejaria Ambev, Beraca, Agropalma, Abrapalma, Althelia and Grupo Rede Amaz\u00f4nica. <\/span><\/p>\n

Solutions <\/b><\/p>\n

Sustainable agriculture and livestock: <\/b>solutions in production, processing, marketing or services related to agriculture or livestock that prioritize sustainable practices and family production. Here they are worth a consortium of cultures; agroforestry (agriculture and forest) and silvipastoral (livestock, crop, forest) systems; low-impact animal protein production (fish farming, for example; organic or agroecological production; livestock production without deforestation\/sustainable chairs in livestock farming; support services for the agriculture, livestock, fish farming chain: supply of more sustainable inputs, technical assistance, logistics platforms and\/or marketing, etc.   <\/span><\/p>\n

Sustainable forest management and production and socio-biodiversity products: <\/b>solutions for extraction, processing, marketing or services related to sustainable forest management and production (timber and non-timber), with an appreciation of the Amazon's socio-biodiversity. This is the case of sustainable management wood products; sustainable extractive activities;- chain of copaiba and andiroba oils and other derivatives of socio-biodiversity under sustainable management; sustainable chain for the production and processing of native a\u00e7a\u00ed; management, processing and\/or marketing of Brazil nuts under sustainable management; management and processing of certified or sustainable wood; forest chain support services: technical assistance, logistics and\/or marketing platforms, etc. <\/span><\/p>\n

Education and social welfare combined with environmental conservation:<\/b> they are activities, projects and services aimed at education and training for children, young people and adults (preferably in rural and riverside areas of the Amazon) that promote social well-being, rural entrepreneurship, environmental education, appreciation of socio-biodiversity and natural resources. <\/span><\/p>\n

Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change:<\/b> productive activities, new technologies, services or initiatives that promote mitigation or adaptation to climate change. For example low carbon agriculture and livestock (also related to the first topic); renewable energies for rural and riverside communities in the Amazon (solar, wind, etc.); smart irrigation techniques for rural and riverside communities in the Amazon, among others. <\/span><\/p>\n

Social and environmental products and services:<\/b> initiatives for measuring, valuing and promoting environmental services associated with conservation and sustainable production activities. forest restoration of areas degraded by agriculture or livestock; or areas of permanent protection and legal reserve; measurement and sale of carbon credits (sequestration or avoided deforestation); ecological tourism, community-based tourism and\/or scientific tourism in rural and riverside areas of the Amazon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Combating animal trafficking, illegal logging and environmental crimes:<\/b> they are technological innovations, products or services aimed at combating animal trafficking, illegal logging and other environmental crimes. As a technology\/app for monitoring illegal activities and\/or whistleblowing; for traceability of timber forest products or combating illegal timber; qualification actions or training with the objective of prevention and environmental education. <\/span><\/p>\n

Treatment of solid\/pollutant waste and improved access to water for rural and riverside communities<\/b>: projects, actions or development of pure technologies or social technologies for Innovation for the treatment of solid or polluting waste or improvements in quality\/access to water for rural and riverside communities in the Amazon.
