The Innovative Solutions Award was created with the aim of recognizing the good work that Amazonian institutions are doing in all parts of the Amazon, considering the social, economic and environmental spheres.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this first edition, the platform will award the best innovative solution with a trip to New York, in the United States, where the representative of the winning initiative will participate in the International Conference for Sustainable Development (ICSD), which will take place in September at Columbia University. On the occasion, the innovative solution developed in the Amazon will also be presented to the main<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stakeholders <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and world leaders present at the conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In all, 24 innovative solutions developed in the Amazon were submitted to the platform, 14 from Brazil, four from Ecuador, four from Peru, a solution from Colombia and one from Bolivia. The 24 solutions are available at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/maps.sdsn-amazonia.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SDSN-Amazon Solutions Platform<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for public access.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All solutions submitted were evaluated by the technical-scientific committee of the Platform for Solutions, composed of researcher and former director of the National Institute for Research in the Amazon (INPA) Adalberto Luis Val; the CEO of Bemol Brasil, Denis Minev; by the executive director of the Bolivian NGO Herencia, Juan Fernando Reyes; by the researcher at the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute (IIAP), Manuel Mart\u00edn Bra\u00f1as; and by the deputy director of the Amazon Institute for Scientific Research (SINCHI), in Colombia, Marco Ehrlich. The solutions were evaluated based on criteria of relevance, innovative character of the solution, financial feasibility, scalability, current and\/or potential impact, and adherence to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>*Innovative solutions*<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of the 24 solutions evaluated, five go on to the final award stage. Two are from the Peruvian NGO Amaz\u00f4nicos por La Amazon\u00eda \u2013 Ampa Per\u00fa, which participates with the solutions <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Value chains and ecosystem services<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a project that makes full use of products and by-products derived from the honey, quinoa, coffee, cocoa and coconut production chains, as well as promoting reforestation, restoration and conservation of forests; and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conservation-flavored cuisine<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a project that accompanies the associations in the realization and management of conservation areas connecting the great pantry of the Andean Amazon with the Peruvian gastronomic chain and with renowned Peruvian cooks, while ensuring the sustainability of supplies, the defense of forests and improving quality of life of Peruvian peasants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From Brazil, three solutions participate, two from Amazonas and one from the state of Par\u00e1. One of them is the Partners for the Amazon Platform Acceleration Program (PPA), which aims to encourage and support initiatives and businesses that generate positive social and environmental impacts, taking into account the development and growth of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">startups<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the Amazon, whose main objective is to transform the current mentality of unsustainable exploitation of resources, both environmental and human, and focus on a healthy relationship between local economic development, the environment and society.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Peabiru Institute, from Par\u00e1, also participates with the solution <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meliponiculture \u2013 Social technology for traditional Amazonian peoples and communities<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an agroecological technology for breeding native Amazon bees, which seeks to have a low implementation cost, simplified management, replicability, appreciation of environmental services, market inclusion and empowerment of socially vulnerable groups in Par\u00e1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The third finalist Brazilian solution is the project <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First Infancy Ribeirinha App: a childhood data management strategy in riverine communities in the Amazon<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, from Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Amazonas Sustent\u00e1vel (FAS), which developed, in partnership with the company Samsung\/SIDIA and the North Institute of Technology and Business, an application to incorporate the home visitation guide of the Primeira Inf\u00e2ncia Ribeirinha (PIR) program. The tool, which can be accessed offline, was made with a playful and interactive strategy in the collection of digitized information, and seeks to support decision-making by public managers in the Amazonas health network.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>2030 Agenda<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The importance of the SDSN-Amazon Solutions Platform and the Innovative Solutions Award have the same motto as the 2030 Agenda: don&#039;t leave anyone behind, according to the assessment of the SDSN-Amazon Solutions Platform manager, Carolina Ram\u00edrez.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe know from memory what the main problems facing the Amazon region are, however, we do not know how to solve them. The Innovative Solutions award, in addition to valuing solutions created by Amazonian institutions, aims to publicize and disseminate solutions that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, so that they do not fall into oblivion, leaving no one and no work behind. It&#039;s time to honor the good work that Amazonian institutions are doing and foster new partnerships so that these solutions can reach all parts of the Amazon\u201d, says Carolina.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The innovative solution chosen by the SDSN Network will be announced during an event to present the videos of the selected initiatives and an award ceremony on July 29, at the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS) headquarters in Manaus, at \u00c1lvaro Braga street, number 351, Parque Dez neighborhood , South-Central Zone, from 9am to 12pm.
